Phil was keen to expand his training client base and sought Neil’s advice on how to go about marketing his business.
“The first thing we discussed was the company’s trading name and brand” said Neil.
At the time, Phil was using a version of his Jiu-Jitsu club name and branding for the training company. Neil recommending separating the two businesses, as they were aimed at very different markets – one being parents of children with lots of energy, the other being business owners and HR Managers responsible for looking after their staff.
After some initial market research, Neil presented Phil with a shortlist of new names that were available at Companies House as well as website addresses and social media profiles. To differentiate from competitors that focussed on ‘training’, the recommendation was to promote the benefits and results of expert training – namely ‘Skills.’ Add to that Phil’s goal to become a one-stop shop and managed service for training and development, and ‘Skills Shop’ was born.
Armed with a name, Creative Lakes set about developing a new brand identity for Skills Shop which Phil has fully embraced with the support of Neil’s design team and a complete set of logo artwork and guidelines.
Following the launch of the new company, Phil and Neil have continued to work closely together ensuring that the branding is applied consistently across a wide range of media and materials, plus a range of communications to raise the profile and awareness of Skills Shop among its target customers.
More recently, a robust business strategy and plan has been developed for Skills Shop which has in turn lead to the creation of a brand new training service and offering called Skills Shop Pro.
And even in the midst of the Corona virus outbreak, Neil was on hand to support Phil and the team at Skills Shop by encouraging them to adapt and employ available technologies so that courses could continue to be delivered online with an e-learning resource.
